Our History

Archetype’s iconic brands have informed and entertained millions since 1868.

Archetype’s  brands have been at the forefront of American thought since the mid-1800’s.

Amidst the tumultuous backdrop of the American Civil War in 1863, Sightline’s Army and Navy Journal emerged as the primary platform for thought leaders to engage in the exchange of military strategies.  In the 1940’s, the Army Times Publishing Company became the only independent media source focused solely on military news.   For generations of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines- the Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times, and Marine Corps Times have been THE trusted paper of record for independent news.

Today, Sightline and its award-winning publications like the Military Times, Defense News, and Federal Times remain essential reading for our dedicated armed services personnel and leaders in government and the defense industry.

Since its founding in 1898, Sunset has been a beacon for those with dreams of venturing into the vast expanse and pioneering spirit of the American West.

Sunset Magazine, through its iconic pages, is the archetype of today’s modern food and lifestyle publications. Within its covers, readers were given their first introduction to American mainstays like the delights of guacamole, the charm of mid-century architecture and ranch-style homes, and the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite National Park and the Hawaiian Islands.

Archetype’s HistoryNet is a media platform that empowers readers to commemorate, embrace, and engage in thoughtful debates about historical events from around the world.
